Just lost my cat

My darling boy was hit by a car this morning and died instantly. The lady knew he was ours so at least we have him home. I can’t stop crying. I feel so ridiculous, he was only a cat. We have lost many cats in the past but always through old age. Please tell me that this reaction is normal?

I’m so sorry for your loss. He wasn’t “only” a cat. He was your loved pet and you are bound to grieve for him.

Thank you. I feel so silly for sitting here crying when my 11 year old is coping so much better than I am.

I am so sorry @GrannyBags, what a horrible shock. I would be exactly the same. Flowers

My 18 year old mog was PTS a few months ago. I grieved for her deeply and miss her so much. They aren’t ‘just’ cats they are family

GrannyBags · 21/12/2019 13:55

I think it is the shock. He was only 2.

I am sorry, love. 💐

That's so sad. I'm so sorry Flowers.
You shouldn't feel silly for grieving. He was your beloved pet. I'll be gutted when my ragdoll dies - they're part of the family.

Take care of yourself

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/12/2019 18:49

How are you?.

Ozzie9523 · 21/12/2019 19:34

I went through the same thing 13 days ago with our 3 year old cat. I’ve been astounded at the level of my grief. I think it’s also shock too at the circumstances. Hugs OP, it is so hard to accept. Everyone tells me it gets better. I’m only crying about 4 times a day now which is a huge improvement xx

GrannyBags · 21/12/2019 20:17

Thank you again, your replies helped me to feel I wasn’t being ridiculous. Have had lots of cuddles with my other cats and my lovely boss and his wife came round with a bouquet of flowers. Am still quite teary and think I’ll have an early night.
