Worried

Can someone please talk me down? Our ten month old kitten has been gone now since 7.30am. I know that's not long for lots of cats but it's the first time he's gone for this long and I'm starting to worry.

If he's like mine he'll be home when he's hungry.

I adopted a 6 month old and the first time we let him out he ran and didn't come back. Left a box and a litter box out overnight and he came back.

I'm sure yours will be back soon 🐾

It's far too soon to worry (assuming he's neutered). How long does he normally stay out for? I'm sure he's just exploring a bit more.

He was neutered at six months. Most he's been gone before was a couple of hours. I know you're right and he's probably just exploring or has found a nice neighbour to feed him and let him snooze on their sofa. I think I'm getting in a knot as if he's not home in a couple of hours when the kids get home I know they'll be really worried.

I just need someone to talk me down off this ledge!

Scatter some stinky wet food around the garden OP, and also the contents of the hoover with his fur in hit, so he can follow the scent home.

Thanks for those suggestions I'll do all of the above now. Someone else said to dh to put his bed outside as he'll pick up the scent so off to do all these things now. I'd say if the neighbours have been watching me over the last few hours they'll think I'm completely nuts

I would go and have a search for him, if it’s unusual for him to have gone. Perhaps he could have got into a shed somewhere?

His empty belly will have him running back soon!!

I've walked the neighbourhood four or five times since around 11am. Dh has driven around too hoping he'd hear and recognise the engine as he always runs in or downstairs when he hears it. We've put his picture up on our neighbourhood WhatsApp and friends in the next estates have done the same. We've asked people to check sheds etc as he's a bit silly and is the type to get himself possibly stuck somewhere. Kids are home from school, eldest is beside herself, has been sobbing for the last hour ☹️

Really sorry to hear that, it is so upsetting when they go missing. Don’t panic, he might just be exploring a bit further. Hopefully he will return soon. If he is not back by tomorrow, maybe knock on neighbors and ask if they can check sheds? Does he go beyond your garden? He is probably close, don’t panic. Walk down street and call his name. I hope he returns soon

If it has been pouring with rain he's probably found himself somewhere nice and dry and he'll be back for his supper.

Our first cat ( neutered , about 3yo and we'd had her a year ) went missing one night , it was tipping down. We searched and called , no avail.

Madam came strolling in hours later , bone dry ! ...... she had gone next door (in the days before micro chip catflaps) .
We regularly saw her "invited" in by NDNs cat , the two of them sitting on the windowsill of NDN bedroom.

He's home!!!! We've pieced together he had a fight with our friend's cat around 8am. We suspect as he's never come face to face with any cat other than his brother before that he ran off and hid until he was sure the coast was clear. I honestly walked the neighbourhood on and off for hours. Dh and the kids went out a short while ago after dinner and they called him and this time heard a miaow. He was on the shed of our neighbour's across the road afraid to get down as there was a dog. He is home. He is grounded! Thanks for all the replies!!

Just seen this thread now. Pleased it's a happy ending! I love cats but wow they cause stress!!
