Cat eye infection

Had my boy in the vets today for an eye infection, he's got antibiotics, pain relief and a cone ( which hes furious about )

Weve got another appointment at the vets in 2 days to see how his eye is ( he wouldnt let the vet properly look at it today ) but im just wondering if anyone elses cat has had an eye infection and how long it took to clear up?

Im worried my cats going to need his eye removed if the infection doesnt clear,

Eye infections are a pest. Normally with antibiotics you should see improvement in a few days but sometimes the first treatment doesn't work and you need to try a different one. The most important thing is to make sure you're administering it properly.

I foster cats for the RSPCA and although I've seen lots of eye infections, never once has any of the patients been given a cone. Seems over-cautious to me.

Unless your vet has specifically warned you that he could lose an eye, there's really no need to worry. They all get better eventually.

Thank you for replying

I feel awful on him. He had been in a fight so had a scratch near his eye, i was cleaning the eye with RenaSan Eyedrops for 3 days as thats what ive done in the past and everything was ok, it was 2 days wait for the appointment and the weekend in between so his eye has been like this for over a week all in all.

Thats why im worried about his eye because hes had an infection for 7 days and i didnt realise

I have 4, their all rescue cats, one of my other boys was shot with a pellet gun last yearand id kept it clean and bandaged and it hadnt got infected so i just feel awful on this boy

The vet said if it was severe then he would have to have his eye out but then said he couldnt tell as he wouldnt let him look at his eye

Ive been giving him the eye drops every 2 hours as prescribed ( aside from 11pm to 6am when we were sleeping ) and it is a tiny bit open today, so maybe it is getting better?

I just feel really guilty that i left him that long without help, i thought it was like the other times and could be fixed with the things i have at home.

I asked for the cone as we have 4 in total and they all greet each other so didnt want the infection spreading or the other cats who have been outside ( hes not allowed out while he is poorly ) to greet him and maybe get some dirt on it or somthing, probably was over cautious but im scared hes going to have to have his eye removed if it doesnt get better,
