Vet for scratch?

Cat had a fight the other day, ended up with some scratches. Just stroked him and one is now a bump which I bathed in salt water and some pus came out.

He's eating, sleeping and purring as normal. Do I just keep it clean or do I need to get an appt with the vet? Are you always meant to see a vet after a nasty fight? He's a scrapper but not had a nasty wound before.

I tried to take a pic but he's not having any of it HmmGrin

Or is there something I'm supposed to bathe it in other than sale water?

I would take him to the vet if it was mine. He probably need antibiotics

TheoriginalLEM · 27/11/2019 15:31

That's an abscess and really needs cleaning properly and antibiotics

I've just made an appt for 4.30, I don't want to take any risks. ThanksSmile

He seems ok today and slept on our bed all night, ate this morning and is snoozing in his cat tree at the moment. Had a good look at his wound and it's drying up really nicely, yesterday is was open and wet and oozing and today it looks like it's on the mend.

One thing that surprised me was the vet cleaned his hurty bits with surgical spirit,I though alcohol and cats was a big no-no (obviously not as it worked) but should I keep some at home to clean scratches in the future, obviously not instead of going to the vet?

The vet cleaned an open wound with surgical spirits??

We swab skin with surgical spirits, but not open wounds. Ouch

OMG I once had scratches on my face (horse dragged me under a hawthorn tree when I was riding) and they used surgical spirit on them at the stables. SCREAM!

Yeah, poor cat was good,he only squirmed a bit in my arms. I was a bit surprised I must say.
