Cat drinking lots more

Poor little basil. I've noticed the last week he's been drinking a lot more water, barely touched it before. Having to fill his water bowl every day now, he's been at my tea and even caught the little minger sipping from the toilet bowl
Seems okay in himself, not off his food
Any ideas?

Needs to go to the vet could be. Lots of things but diabetes or kidney disease need ruling out

Thank you. Yes I've been reading up on it and seems it could be a good few things. Worse timing as we're off on honeymoon on Sunday and my mum is popping in to feed him. Think he's doing it to spite me.

Timing is everything, can your mum vet him for you? I don’t like the idea of an animal on his own lots if he could be getting ill.

It was diabetes in the case of my cat when he developed a raging thirst. He lived quite happily for a good 5 years more with twice-daily insulin injections and died at 17, so a good age. The injections weren't as hideous as you'd think.

Get your mum to take him.to the vet, my cat dud this when diabetic.

My cat gets cystitis.

3 things I would consider as well -

Have you changed his food?

Have you had the heating on really hot indoors?

Is he weeing?

Is he stressed?

Mum has three cats of her own and I think it would be awful for him. She's only up the road though so may ask if she wants to stay here more than just popping in.
I'm so worried it's diabetes or kidney failure. He's quite a sickly cat anyway

@GuessWhoColeen (great name btw) that's really good points. I started him on that perle stuff because it was on offer we've had the heating on full whack, as well as the open fire, and we moved only a few weeks ago which he hated.

These things always have bad timing!
Pur old girls started drinking more and she was diabetic. I was aware of the symptoms as her pancreas was badly damaged so she was at risk of developing diabetes.
It is best to get him to the vet asap so they can start treatment for whatever it may be.

Vets, my boy started drinking more suddenly. It was the first symptom of tumor which was too late to do anything about.

I'm sure it won't be anything serious, but it's best to check.

Another thing I thought of was have you changed his water bowl?

Some prefer ceramic as it keeps the water cooler. Plastic bowls get warm and can irritate their chin.

Back from vets, they've given me the non absorbent litter to get a urine sample. If that comes back fine it'll be blood tests. Temperature and stomach all fine. He's now gone into hiding in protest. Now we play the waiting game....

If he doesn’t like that litter try an empty tray.
