How long do I leave it before worrying

Our boy is 7 months old and has had the snip almost 2 weeks ago so for the last 2 days I've let him outside, he's been gone 4 hours each day and gone about with an older cat from the neighbourhood who comes here for a cuddle occasionally and, as DD puts it, "is his friend", they mostly stayed in our garden. Our cat went out at 10am today and I haven't seen him all day, I've seen the other cat but he wasn't with mine.
It's now almost 5 and am I being silly for worrying? He's not eaten since he nibbled at his breakfast. Have walked around calling for him shaking his biscuit tin which he always comes for and not found him. He's got collar with our details on and he's microchipped.
Am I just being a helicopter cat parent Grin

In all likelihood he’s fine. Mines been in and out all day.

Any news? X

I'm a worrier when ours is out "too long". I would keep calling him and shaking food. Hopefully he's home soon.

Hope he's back soon.

Across-the-street neighbour has just carried him over, he was happily scooting about her garden in the dark and she thought it was a hedgehog until she went to have a look. He is curled up on the sofa now, all fine and content after his busy day. He's not had any more food so wonder if he was fed by someone else today as he usually eats lots

Phew! Glad he's home.
