Please recommend a litter tray

We have a kitten and are expecting a baby summer time.
Kitten doesn’t yet go outside but will start to from the new year.

Previously when I have had cats they have stopped using the litter tray when they can go outside but in this case we won’t have free roaming access as no cat flap yet and not too sure where one could be fitted.

The tray is an open one and cat litter goes everywhere and I’m honking when baby starts crawling il need something safer and more secure.

Can anyone recommend anything?

get an enclosed one with a cat flap (remove the flap while the kitten gets used to it) and which has a series of trays to filter out the lumps (use with clumping litter) - this makes keeping it hygienic a breeze.

do you have a utility room? or other area that can be barricaded off? if possible then a 'pet gate' (toddler gate with a cat flap in) would be best to keep the toddler away from the cat litter.

Unfortunately totally open plan downstairs.
It’s tucked in a corner but a covered unit should help at least.

My cat has always had a big covered tray (think got from Amazon). It was also tucked into the corner of the room, next to a sofa (not quite as grim as it sounds!). My children didn’t take any notice of it when they were crawling. As long as the opening turned away from view, doesn’t look very interesting I guess.

Don't waste your money on a Modkat flip. The liners now cost a fortune and it's difficult to empty without them. I had a top entry one and I loved that. Unfortunately Cheddar didn't understand it!

Not the cheapest but we recently bought the Curver one for our new kitten which is great. Looks nice in our open plan kitchen/diner and the kitten "got it" straight away. You can remove the flap or pull the tray out to get him used to it at the start.

I'm considering the curve rove for my two. I've got their transport baskets and they are brilliant.

Can you just pull the tray out to scoop it?

Yes, the tray pulls out (even my 9 and 10 year olds do it). Incredibly easy. Had one downstairs and realised we needed another upstairs so bought the same in a different colour. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I've been looking online and I'm confused! Dr Mewler doesn't "get" the top loader I got her so I have to get one with a front door. I don't know whether to go cheap and cheerful or better quality but more pricey, possibly for no greater benefit. I organised the list on Amazon with the most expensive first and the most expensive is £1742.99!!!! I'm paralysed with indecision. Help!

I have the covered Cat-It trays. They are big, fairly smart (white) and tidy. The front and mid top flaps out of the way to clean out. Baby does still try to dig in it mind you.

If baby isn't due till the summer and kitten starts going out in the new year, then you've got at least another year till you need to worry about baby getting at the litter tray though, by which time kitten might prefer outside anyway.
