Cheap cat litter for frequent tray cleaning?

I'm having to clean the litter tray every day, as my cat has diarrhoea, due to a thyroid problem which has been diagnosed and is being treated, but I've been told it found take a few weeks to make a difference.

I usually use Cats Best litter, but it's expensive now I'm having to clean the tray nearly every day. Is there a cheap alternative?

Tbh it's not absorbing the smell and it clumps for urine, but not the diarrhoea, so I might as well use something different, bit I've no idea what is best but cheap.

I do like the fact that I can put Cats Best down the toilet though, not sure this is possible with other litters?

I would probably get wood pellet, it's around £6 for a big 30litre bag from Pets at Home. Or alternatively Catsan, the basic non-clumping stuff.

I don't think anything will absorb the smell really...

Pets at Home wood litter. £7 for an enormous bag that should last you weeks.

Ah, I have just read the post above!! But nothing gets rid of the smell of diarrhoea.

best.

I'll look tomorrow at Pets at home.

If your cat likes the Cats Best though would they accept a different one ?

You might buy something your cat won;t tolerate and he'll go elsewhere?

Cats Best is ££ though !

You could try a layer of his usual litter on top of the cheaper stuff to try to fool help him.

We use the sainsburys basic litter, super cheap and does the job

Morrison's cheapest litter, only £1.55!

I buy the own euro shopper one from my local premier - it’s £1.39 for 8 litres so I don’t begrudge changing it every other day and scooping in between. That said, I prefer catsan, but then I try and make it last a week with regular scoopage!

Thanks. I'm still using Cats Best because I'm worried he'll stop using the tray, but may try a layer of cats best over a cheaper litter.

I treated the 70cats to a new covered tray (I had to move their tray from under the stairs because they kept missing and we were searching for random deposits) . My DC were cat sitting when DH and I were away so it was easier in the hall for them doing litter duty .

But they like to kick it all over the carpet ....

Now they have a lovely , covered , deep curved tray and are happy.

But they scrape down to plastic , it sounds like someone wiping plastic with a scrubby sponge Confused at 4am .

So, your lovely boy might scrape down and recognise your fraud Grin

This is what we use with a hyperthyroid cat, seems expensive but lasts ages and easy to clean, we find it works out cheaper in the long run as it is so absorbent.

I bought Tesco value cat litter. Worked fine.
