Cat not well, any advice.

Basically our 11 year old cat has been going downhill recently. She has been having tummy troubles, which the vet has prescribed anti biotoca for a few times.

Lately(last few weeks) she's been hiding under the decking a lot, not eating as much. Usually she comes in as soon as you call her and she loves her food. So she's basically the opposite of that.

Yesterday, she's not really moved since and her breathing is very very fast and her meow is distressed but very weak.

My dad's just phoned the vet to say he's bringing her down, and they asked her symptoms over the phone. They said they are going to try her on oxygen.

To be honest, I'm quite sensible in knowing this isn't looking good. But I'm hoping someone has been through the same and had a happy outcome. That the oxygen has worked, and they brought their cat home?

Or is this something the vet says to make you feel better about bringing them in?

Thanks in advance Sad

Hope the cat responds and recovery's is swift and it is something minor. My cats 10 now and I've noticed him ageing rapidly lately he has been clumsy a number of times each day, it can be a worry can't it?

Quick update. We're having to take her to a vet further away for X-rays.

It does sound really serious, but cats can be strange creatures so don't panic until you know the full picture.

We've left her there overnight as the vet said her lungs are full. She's having X-rays Sad

Hope the vet can make her feel more comfortable.💐

Poor kitty. I hope she is better soon. Perhaps her infection has turned into something more serious like pneumonia that needs intravenous antibiotics for. Hope she’s ok. Flowers

I'm really sorry but it sounds like cardiomyopathy or similar. Two of my best cats died of it. You can keep them going for a bit with it but not for long.
I hope I'm wrong I really do but I recognise the symptoms.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/11/2019 21:24

@madcatladyforever that was my thought as well. Though Maia did very well on 5 types of medication. Her heart disease never made her unwell at all. She died of kidney failure exacerbated by an increase in her diuretics.

libbynaughtz26 · 01/11/2019 21:45

Thanks for all your comments. The vet still hasn't called. She said she didn't want to put her under for her X-ray as she didn't seem strong enough for that Sad luckily she was really still so don't think she would have needed to.

So sorry, I am sure misty had a wonderful life with you. 💔

BlueEyedBengal · 02/11/2019 22:57

So sorry it's not the result that was so wished for it's so heartbreaking when this happens as they're one of the family and it's like losing your best friend. You did the very best that any animal could wish for and as a wonderful owner you did the best at the en. And at the end you made that difficult decision that every pet owner dreads the least suffering so sending best wishesThanks

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Stressmess · 04/11/2019 20:50

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your cat. I went through the same thing earlier this year and it was absolutely heart breaking. It was about two weeks for my boy when we noticed that he wasn't himself, he seemed lethargic, wasn't eating or drinking much and wasn't interacting with the family when he loved attention before. We went through all sorts of x-rays, antibiotics and tests and turned out he had tumour on his kidney. We done everything we could for him but he wasn't getting better and we had to have him put to sleep, so I feel your pain.

ThisIsNotMyRealName1 · 05/11/2019 04:52

So sorry to see this outcome. RIP Misty. It's a tough time, look after yourselves. Flowers
