Vets - FLEAS!!

The demonic twins were spayed on Thursday and after a day resting there, they've returned crawling with fleas 😨

I've treated them with stronghold and I'm starting to see a few drop and they're slow enough to grab. Off to get spray today and my dyson is charging as we speak.

So flippin annoyed.

Secondary to this, they are incredibly desperate to get out and explore! Scratching at windows, butting the back door.

Is it too soon? Cat Protection lady said that they could go out the same day but vets said 10-14 days!!

What is all your experience?

Definitely do not let them out.. atleast 10 days! They can do serious damage to themselves the outside of the wound heals quicker than the inside. They should be kept in the warm and stopped from even jumping up and climbing if you can help it! Mine have all had scheduled check ups following surgery at day 3 and day 7 to check the healing process then been told not to let them out until day 10

Actually gob smacked cats protection said u can let them out the day they have had an operation ShockAngry

Ours had a vet check on day 2 and day 14. The vet advised to wait till after the day 14 check but I let them out after first check up. But mine are boys so the op is less invasive than for girls. They didn’t go very far and they were climbing their cat tree indoors so I figured they’d be OK and they were. It took them quite a while to attempt climbing outside.

If it were me I’d let them out when they’re starving hungry, stay outside with them, then bring them in after 10 minutes and see how it goes. Mine just adore being outside except for when it’s raining and they meow at me constantly, like I could do something about it.

It’s really bad they’ve come back with fleas. Have you spoken to the vet about that? It’s worth having a couple of cans of Indorex or RIP Fleas in the house. Don’t buy anything from the supermarket as they’re rubbish. Defo no Bob Martin stuff as can cause huge problems for cats.

I kept mine in for two weeks post neuter.

Thanks everyone.
Understood - I shall keep them indoors for another 10 days. They are so keen to get out though - and very inventive. One sprints downstairs when she hears me open the back door, hides behind the door and tries to leg it outside when I reappear. I feel like a jailer Sad

The flea issue seems to be under control. Hoovering and treating with spray today (recommended on other threads) and WelshKitties seem less irritable and scratchy. Still lots of grooming happening so I'll be helping that along when the comb arrives.

One kitten has reacted badly to the flea bites and her skin is lumpy and crusty. Can I do anything to help her?

She's also the whiffs kitten when she eats felix - stinky wet poos. I'm assuming a wheat allergy so I'm buying wheat free meat tins from the pet shop - costs a fortune though.

Any advice on the most reasonable foods without wheat? Whiskas and Felix only contain about 5% meat!

How on earth am I meant to put a babygro on a cat?!

Vet wants me to get some cheap babygros to discourage the cats from licking out/grooming/nibbling their St itches. The collars/cones are coming off every hour.

How do they poo when wearing babygro's??!

I suppose you cut a hole?. You can buy special suits.

Butchers choice is cereal free.

dementedpixie · 29/10/2019 17:16

I got the bodysuit thing from the vet itself. Whiskas and felix have 5% named meat e.g. chicken, beef, etc. They contain much more meat than that but its unspecified as to which animal it's from.

dementedpixie · 29/10/2019 17:19

This is similar to what I have

I've bought 3-6 months from Tesco after watching something on YouTube.

This should be interesting! If ai get them on, I'll post a pic.
