Pot plant potty

Help! My kitten keeps using my pot plants as a toilet. Have tried covering soil with aluminium foil and bought cat deterrent to sprinkle on soil. These measures have just made her more determined! Any suggestions?

Give up putting plants in them!

We've had this. I have a big rosemary bush in the garden, I cut off lots of sprigs of rosemary and lay them criss cross over the bare soil, it did the trick for us.

Eventually she’ll get too big to do it.

Mine didn't, she came to us as an adult from a rescue. It was only the bigger plants she managed to use though.

When she gets too big buy her a planter of her own, like my old boy has.
But, as she's obviously not spent her life outdoors so it's not a habit she can't break, my first guess would be she doesn't like whatever litter you're using.
If she still insists on using soil, put the plants away, and fill her litter tray with it. Then gradually start mixing litter with the soil until you've entirely weaned her from it. Barring current old boy this has worked on various adult cats, including ferals

I sprinkle ground black pepper on my plants: that has worked with my girl. But anytime I forget to top up the pepper, she’s back digging into them. I gave up keeping big pots inside.
Try clapping your hands loudly and saying “no!” when you see her in the pot, too.
