Please could you advise me on what flea preventative treatments you would recommend? Preferably OTC rather than from the vets. the one I used to use seems to have stopped working :(

The only over the counter one recommended is Advantage. Other than that you are looking at vet prescription only treatments like stronghold plus or advocate

Used to use Frontline but stopped working so use Advantage now and it works!

And what have you been using?

Advocate. I don't believe they anything OTC works tbh and treating the house for an infestation is costly and time consuming. It's worth the 9 quid odd a month from the vet imo.

Advantage has the same flea treatment as Advocate (it doesn't treat worms like advocate so you'd need a separate wormer)

Thanks we use Johnston’s 4cats or 4fleas I think it is called. It is what was recommended by the cats protection people. I wondered if there was something better. Cats are both incredibly nervous and very elderly, so going to the vets with them is a last resort option.

Most OTC ones arent effective. When did they last see a vet as you dont need to see a vet every time you get the flea treatment. Advantage is about the only one that's supposed to work without needing a vet
