Cat stuck 30 foot up a tree

My cat has climbed my fir tree and is stuck.
Should I call the fire service? Seems overkill. But he can't get down he's been up there 3 hours and is bawling like a baby.

No ladder I have or neighbours might supply will reach. The tree has no branches at all until about 20 foot up.

What do I do? Perfectly timed of course as I'm due to go away tomorrow first thing for a night ...

Has a dead cat ever been found up a tree?

Your boy will make his own way down ... just leave him to it.

BuckingFrolics · 20/10/2019 15:20

Good point - but what worries me is whether a dead cat has ever been found at the foot of a tree!

They don't always make their own way down. These guys (in Seattle) are VERY busy helping cats get down: www.canopycatrescue.com/

Seattle's a long way to come to rescue a cat.

TheMoreItSnows · 20/10/2019 15:30

Try a local tree surgeon rather than the fire brigade - often more accommodating & sometimes happy to do it for free.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 20/10/2019 15:35

DCat did the same, the clang of us getting the ladder out was enough to scare him and he ran down the tree with no problem.

WaitingInTheBushesOfLove · 20/10/2019 15:35

Could you entice the cat to come down with his favourite treat? Perhaps open a can of tuna?

ConFusion360 · 20/10/2019 15:36

He will find his own way down. Just leave him to it.

I've seen a cat jump more than 30 feet down and come to no harm.

WaningGibbous · 20/10/2019 15:40

The fire brigade won't do it. RSPCA etc say you never see a cat skeleton in a tree do you. As a veteran of a 24 hour cat stuck in a tree, that wasn't very reassuring.

We ended up borrowing a neighbour's ladder and when the dreamies didnt work literally shaking her out. Also a conifer tree, she was stuck in the little branches, at the top of house height. As soon as she could get close enough she jumped into my arms.

Another reassuring story of cat succeeding where rescuers failed.

BuckingFrolics · 20/10/2019 16:04

He's down. Four hours later. Abit shell shocked and nervous and I don't blame him.

Good to hear.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/10/2019 18:27

Oh good, I would literally have kittens if ours did this.

RandomMess · 20/10/2019 18:28

Glad to hear it, I was going to suggest an open tin of tuna as encouragement!
