Food obsessed kitten

No his food but ours. Haribo is nearly 4 months old, an absolute sweetie but he is obsessed with what we are eating. I reckon he will be one of those cats which will steal a neighbour's defrosting sausages and Sundays roast meat.

He will finish his food and automatically gallop over to see what we are eating. He will sniff breath and inhale the fumes from a hot chocolate, steal a mouthful of rice, stick his nose in jam on toast and he's like a flipping hoover in the kitchen, sucking up a lost peas or crumbs. He sits there licking his chops and salivating.

He is an only spoilt kitten, will be neutered in a fortnight, goodness knows how he, or I will cope when he's nil by mouth from 8pm the night before.

Have I forgotten how kittens behave or is he just a greedy pig and it will get worse?

We have 2 new kittens and one is such a grubber. Desperate to get her paws on anything we are eating.

TroysMammy · 19/10/2019 13:04

He stopped playing with a scrunched up choc ice wrapper to watch me eating a banana!

Ours was the same, he had a loud miaow we called “bowl empty”, I genuinely didn’t want to go into the kitchen because the noise would start.

sweetkitty · 19/10/2019 14:18

I’ve got one like that, got to stick his face in what you are eating to see if he likes it or not. Hoovers up all the leftovers. When I’m feeding the rabbits and cutting up veg his face is literally in the kale bag stealing kale to play with not to eat. You cannot leave anything out. He’s worse than the dog.

AnnaMagnani · 19/10/2019 14:19

Some cats are just like this.

Every time I have had 2 cats I've had one that can self-regulate and one that is a dustbin.

The dustbin gets just as excited about a veggie dinner as meat - we sit there trying to tell her cats aren't vegan but it makes no difference to her. She would be the size of a barrel if we let her.

SagelyNodding · 19/10/2019 14:23

You forgot the photo!!
Mine once stole brioche from halfway into my mouth... And he seems to still believe he has the right to sample anything he wants from our plates when we are eating... He's half cat half gannet!

Worming up to date? Otherwise just filling his boots Grin

SleepyKat · 19/10/2019 14:31

I’ve got one just the same. This is my view when eating anything. It’s got so bad dh puts him out the room when eating as he will just launch himself at your plate. Also can’t put down cups of coffee as he sticks his face in them.

Worming is up to date will have another course when he goes to the vet for the snip.
Here he is in my jam pan. There was no jam in it as it was ready to go away.

My kittens are like this, they drink your coffee if you put it down for a minute and nab spinach leaves out of the bag and gobble them up. They charge into the kitchen whenever they hear someone in there. The disappointment on their faces when I top up their water instead of their food Shock

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/10/2019 16:41

God those kittens are so cute though, I’d have to just give in.

Shinesweetfreedom · 19/10/2019 16:47

Yes please both of you more pics pretty please

TheFaerieQueene · 19/10/2019 16:55

Oh he has that hungry little face. It’s an act but a bloody good one.

frostedviolets · 19/10/2019 20:30

My cat is like this.
She has swiped treats straight out out of the dog's mouth before.
She is very skilled at feigning disinterest around the children's dinners; biding her time until just the right moment to swipe the plate...
You can't cook anything in the kitchen without her sniffing round wanting a piece!

TroysMammy · 19/10/2019 21:05

In a way I'm glad it's not just my cat. Earlier I gave him food then I settled down to eat a sponge pudding. He was over in a shot and grabbed some out of my bowl like a velociraptor.

I did once catch my old tabby helping himself to a sponge pudding and custard but he had the manners to wait until I left it and wandered off before helping himself.

Came here for pics and wasn't disappointed.

My boy was the same but I've always thought that kittens can eat as much as they want while they're growing. He's still a complete dustbin at 1 but is much more regulated. I'm going to try and post baby Vs 1 year old pics, hope it works. He's a huge boy now but not overweight at all.

Well the first one worked. Here he is at a year old.

@SleepyKat

If it’s getting too much we will take him off your hands 😀

SleepyKat · 20/10/2019 19:42

@flufflycloudland77 At times I could be tempted to take you up on your offer. He can be a total bastard at times. Spent ages last night attacking dh, launching himself at dh and biting his chin repeatedly. He harasses the poor dog from dawn till dusk. Grin. I’m seriously hoping he grows out of it.

Shut him out the room while we ate tonight and he was like a battering ram at the door!

Shinesweetfreedom · 21/10/2019 09:19

Sleepycat he is adorable. His little face when you are eating and he wants some.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/10/2019 09:30

Poor dog though!

I hate to say this to you.
But my cat is three (or thereabouts) and she loves our dog.
She does the usual friendly cat chin rubbing greetings but her favourite thing is pouncing on her, jumping on her head, hanging off her tail or toes....
They play fight a lot.

SleepyKat · 21/10/2019 11:48

Yes, lots of play fighting which they both seem to enjoy. But also non stop tail pouncing and licking. The licking often progresses to an attempt to latch on and suckle....on any part of the body, tail, ear, tuft of fur, chin. Dog really doesn't like that.
