Can I give my cat with kidney problems cat soup?

D cat has been recently diagnosed as having kidney function problems.
I've switched her usual Waitrose senior pouch's with a bit of dry food to Hills prescription Renal sachets (the ones she liked the most after trialling a few brands)

Unfortunately she only really likes the juice from the food, not the chunks.

I feel a bit stuck as I can't feed her meat/fish (too much protein) nor any dry food, but I'm really worried she's not eating enough.

Would cat soup be ok to give? She's had these in the past and loves them....but I am worried they have too much protein in them?

Keeping liquid intake is essential with CKD. You could try renal pouches but many cats don't like them. I came to the conclusion in the end, that it was more important to get something in my boy. Just check if the soup if a complete or complementary food, if complementary try and include another food that's complete.

She might not be a drinker, but leave a couple of water bowls around and one outside (as CKD gets worse they get dehydrated and will look for extra liquid). Towards the end my boy went off his food so he had anything he'd eat then even if it was cooked chicken.

Have you tried making your own "cat smoothie" by smashing up or blending the pouches with some water added?

More recent research suggests good quality protein is not a problem for renal cats, though, and in most cases it's more important to keep eating good quality protein to maintain muscle tone and prevent weight loss. Kidney problems can make them feel sick and affect appetite and it's better to eat something than nothing. You'll have to do your own research and decide what's right for your cat...

Renal diets are notoriously unpalatable. If she wont eat that it is better she has sonething. If you do feed her different food it is worth sprinkling something called ipakatine on it as this is a phosphorus binder and will support the kidneys. Also second what the pister upthread has said about mushing up the food to make a paste, you can warm it up a little as well which helps.

Will try the mashing it up and adding warm water.
She has lots of water dotted around the garden as she doesn't really like fresh tap water.
She resorted to eating the dogs (wet) food yesterday which she's never done, so she must be hungry.
Thing is since she's been on the renal food I think she is less thirsty - despite being on wet food before - so I think it is helping?
