Nervous kitten

I adopted a 5 month old kitten at the weekend from a rescue. She has been moved around a couple of times before and consequently, is a one nervous puss! She is eating and using her litter tray so all is fine there and is playing with toys both independently and as part of interaction with us. However, my kitten seems very frightened of being touched. She will happily sniff fingers at the moment but runs away if there is any suggestion of a stroke. Any tips on making my little kitten more relaxed and a happy recipient of a stroke? I don't want to push her if she's not ready, though I want her to know that petting can be an enjoyable experience.

One of mine still slinks away from touch unless he is the instigator of contact and he is nearly 3 (had him from 8 weeks old). His brother loves a stroke though and will flop down to let you give his belly a rub.
