Bloody cat pissing behind tv!

She's 5, it's a relatively new thing.

We moved into this house about 7 weeks ago. She's settled fine. Litter tray with always fresh litter in our kitchen /diner to which she has access at all times. She uses this just fine, likes the litter, it's a large covered tray and she's happy to use it.

However I've just caught her for the 3rd time behind the tv weeing on the carpet. I'd been so so careful after the 1st time to restrict her access but I turned my back for two seconds getting youngest sorted for school and she was there like a shot.

I have yet again cleaned it thoroughly with a proper cleaner which eliminates the smell etc. I can't have her keep doing this, it'll just wreck my carrier eventually

Any suggestions? I tried orange oil on tissues placed behind there as a deterrent but nope. I cannot put a little tray there as A won't fit and B I don't want a littler tray in my living room but mainly A, it wouldn't fit

I can't believe it's a UTI. How can it be? She eats, drinks normally. She's perfectly content and happy in herself

I'm feeling Murderous

I don't suppose the TV is against an outside wall or close to a window? If so, it'll be because of the other cats in the area.

Pinkbonbon · 14/10/2019 16:19

Insecurity/territorial.

Are there other cats coming up to the windowsill? Or lots passing by outside?

Abstractedobstructed · 14/10/2019 16:22

Last resort - scat mat behind tv.
They give a small static shock if you step on them.
We have had to use these to stop our very determined cat from pissing on the stairs, which she did resolutely for 4 years. Tried litter trays, scrubbing the area, pulled up the carpet, feliway, feeding her there.....nothing worked. A scat mat stopped her overnight.

Yes to silver foil. You might look like a conspiracy theorist but it really does work.

slipperywhensparticus · 14/10/2019 16:28

My cat did this it was a uti unfortunately I thought it was the other cat so I took her to her vets (she got carsick badly) hauled out if her carrier cleaned up squeezed thermometer up the arse and everything before being popped back in her (now clean) carrier I hot home and the other cat had pissed everywhere fused the entire house because he pissed on a socket...I called the vets who checked he was still alive told me to give him the antibiotics and keep an eye on his wing wang as it was rather sore after getting a shock up it

CATS!

and I got three if them last year 🤦‍♀️

Lots of bits of scrunched up foil stopped my pissy little sod from doing his businesses behind the sofa, didn't like the sound or the feel of it on his paws so he gave up.

Tv is close to an outside wall however the only thing out there is a passageway which leads to our garage so not cats up and down or anything. She wouldn't be able to see out of the windows either because they just look onto a brick wall and she has never gone on the window sill due to where it is and a lamp on it. See pic

Please tilt your device to view pic Grin It just shows what I'm struggling to describe. Can't fit a litter box behind there and she can't get on the window sill and has never tried to . She's literally squeezing over the tv stand into the small space behind

I'll try the tin foil thing I think and look at that mat thing

Plan of action is ..

Feliway will be plugged in tomorrow when it arrives

I will stop putting her outside. I know she is rather on edge and on guard about being outside and I'm having to lift her up and pop her there. I will stop doing this - from now on I will open back door and she can choose

Restrict access to living room. I took my eye off the ball this morning for a few moments - I won't do that again. No access to this room unless we are in it to and can watch her

Tin foil

Vet appointment made but I'd be astonished if she's unwell

Cleaning with something very scented like zaflora helps with mine, I don't dilute it as much as it says so it's really strong. Just make sure it's dry before she's allowed in the room.
I absolutely love that painting on your wall!

CherryChapst1ck · 15/10/2019 12:02

@Slappadabass ha thanks. Contrary to my kids belief, we didn't paint it ourselves 😂😂 Romero Britto if you're interested

I will go over again with zoflora I think - great tip. Doors have been firmly closed to her unless we are in there so she's not had a chance!

Feliway is plugged in and she actually is fine today. Haven't made her go outside - just opened various doors and she's peered out but not stepped out. So clearly there's anxiety there

Currently sleeping close to her favourite piss point but she's not attempted to go there
