Poor little limping cat

My little cat has been limping for over two weeks now. When I say limping ,she holds her front left leg entirely off the ground and hops. She has been to the vet twice who each time has declared she seems a bit better but now she is back to not putting the paw on the ground.

This seems to have initially arisen from a really small cut at the top of her leg (which the vet says wasn't a bite). oddly enough her brother had the same injury a week beforehand and healed all by himself.

As both cats have always been hale and hearty and aren't old, I have never insured them. Obviously , I now can't insure her as they won't cover her existing injury anyway but I am a bit worried that costs are mounting and she doesn't seem to be getting better, poor little thing.

She had antibiotics for two weeks, and is now refusing to take those and anti inflammatory for a while.

Taking her back to vet tomorrow who has now mentioned X Rays.

Anyone got any experience with this kind of mysterious limping?

I’d be seeking a second opinion.

hmmm, yes. I would like to think so . She has not really been responding to the antibiotics so I think she might get different ones. She looks so pathetic and sad with her paw up in the air.

When my cat needs antibiotics or anti-inflammatory treatment (steroids) our vet usually gives her a long lasting injection(s). Either a two-week or four-week effect, depending on need.

What treatment has your cat had? Do you mind saying, and what it cost you?

I wouldn't be happy either.

She had an injection when she first went which definitely did help. I want to say, my vet is lovely and willing to try something else. She suspects the infection is in the bone now.

She had two injections at initial visit , then prescribed liquid metacam(?) and two lots of antibiotics. It's not been extortionate so far (about £150) but am worried about x ray etc!!

Pet care is dear. That’s why insurance can be so expensive. I gets crossed the X-ray isn’t too expensive. Poor little cat. I hope she gets better soon.

The insurance is only about £60 but won't cover any 'pre existing condition' so I'll just have to suck it up.

Kitty is having x rays on Weds... could cost £350 ... and God knows what after that!

She needs xrays. Could be infection that’s spread but i’d be worried that whatever caused the would could also have damaged the bone - she could have a fracture or joint or ligament damage

It is so frustrating as it was such a tiny cut on her leg!

I have EXACTLY the same problem with my cat at the moment. She first started limping 3 and a half weeks ago. She has had metacam and then had xrays and fluid drained from her elbow joint almost 2 wks ago. She is currently on antibiotics and crated to reduce movement but the long term picture is confusing and v expensive

Mine escaped today and boy can she run fast on 3 legs!

Take it you didn't insure yours either....?

We do have insurance but they are v slow in paying out!! Ours escaped in he first week and came back limping worse. On advice from the vet we have crated her and keeping her in one room when we do let her out of the crate for changing bedding and litter tray etc.

OK, so mine just sashayed across the kitchen floor, tail held high!

Ate some food and then ostentatiously hopped back out of the room.

Just as an update : £340.14 lighter financially and there is 'nothing obviously wrong with her'....

She should get better but she may have damaged nerves. She isn't limping as such. her leg has dropped (a bit like if we had a lazy arm or a dragging leg) so she is lifting it up.

Good news that they can’t find anything. Hope she gets better soon.
