On the 26th of June this year I bought a sphinx kitten breeder was going abroad and said she would set the free insurance up.on the tenth of July she started to look not quite right she had the runs so I took her to my local vets.they gave her some medication for her runs a few days later I was away in Greece my friend was watching my cats so I msg the breeder saying she’s not well and she says oh I will set up the free weeks insurance for you.to cut long story short my policy started at 1:30 she went to the vets at 12 in the end the kitten had to be pts she had a congenital defect nobody knew until the post Morton.now the insurance won’t pay out because she put the wrong date and won’t backdate the claim so I’ve now a £1500 bill to pay the breeder payed me back the cost of the kitten but in my eyes she should pay the bill because she set the insurance up on the wrong day.

Did you not set up your own insurance? How much free insurance was she offering? I don't quite get the timeline, can you clarify?

dementedpixie · 11/10/2019 17:32

Also, when you take out pet insurance they tend not to cover you for the first 14 days

The insurance should of started the same day I got her 26th June but she dint start the free insurance until July 10th

You need to set it up yourself usually - I used to volunteer at a cat charity and we offered the four/five weeks free insurance deals but the adopter had to call the company to set it up... They do always say they won't cover any illness within the first two weeks (to ensure people don't set up a policy when their pet is already ill) so unfortunately it would have been excluded anyway.

Sorry for the loss of your kitten.

The breeder has offered to give me £500 towards the vets bill
