Best cat litter tray

I'm getting a couple of kittens (12 weeks old) this week. What is the best litter tray to get - is one with a lid better or is there a high chance they won't use it if they have been used to an open litter tray? I quite like the idea of the litter being a bit more contained...

Provided they're fully trained when you get them, just add some used litter to the tray before you put the lid on so they can use their noses to smell where to go.
Lidded ones are much easier, the litter still gets stuck in their paw pads and spread around a but but not over the side in huge waves any more!

I had a top entry one. It was brilliant, but Cheddar didn't get it and it had to go. I e now got a Modkat flip. As it was the biggest I could find. Absolute rip off and quite difficult to manhandle to empty it. Better with the liners but they are expensive and difficult to get hold of.

I've got a tray with a sieve for wood pellet litter from Pets at Home. I remove lumps then give it a good shake, great exercise for bingo wings. The wet pellets turn to sawdust.

I’ve got the lift to sift litter tray from pets at home and it’s great. So quick and easy to clean. I use it with clumping cat litter, but the really tiny gravel kind. Every morning I empty the top tray into the bottom tray through the sifter, all the pee and poo lumps stay in the sifter and get emptied into a bin bag. The litter last ages as it’s really clean once the soiled bits are removed, I just top it up with fresh litter.
