Should I be worried?

I let my rescue cat out for the first time today. He's an older Tom and we've had him for a little over two weeks. He was definitely ready to be let out (scratching and meowing at doors and windows).

Let him out and he had a wander round for twenty minutes, no fear at all and then followed me back up for food.

Later I took the bins out and he escaped past me. I was worried he wouldn't come back but I could see him round about the garden and out front. He came across another cat from our street and they had a bit of a stand-off but didnt actually come into close contact. Eventually he made his way back inside unprompted.

Usually he flops down on the back of the couch and has a snooze for a good long while but since he came back in he's been lying down then shifting himself to various spots around the living room and washing himself constantly. He's also been scratching his neck a bit but i think that might just be because he's not used to the collar. He's flopping down on the floor and in random corners. Otherwise doesn't seem distressed but it is really odd.

Sorry that was long but is this normal? Im scared he's caught fleas or something and thats whats making him so restless, he's usually very chilled out and lazy Sad.

I’d take th collar off and let him chill out. Meeting new cats is stressful.

Tom = unneutered male cat. I hope yours is actually neutered?

And flea treated with a vet prescribed treatment such as Advocate or Stronghold?

Could just be the stress of having been out for the first time of course and defending his territory.

Oops! Yes, he came from Cats Protection so definitely neutered, vaccinated, the works! I thought a Tom was just a male cat. Sorry for any confusion.

Ive removed his collar (don't particularly like him wearing one but I was afraid that if he did run away he might be mistaken for a stray without one.

He's been inside a few hours now and seems to have calmed down so hopefully it was just the stress of meeting the other cat.

He is usually very confident and relaxed so this is the first time I've seen him like this, even when we first brought him home he wasnt stressed!
