Cat trees

Is taller better when it comes to cat trees? I'm researching them now and can't believe the price of the taller ones. But if they are better then I dont mind paying for it.

My cat says to hell with the cat tree I'll scratch up the entire carpet around it.

I have a very active Bengal who went through a few different cat trees before I invested in a very sturdy one. It was quite expensive but hopefully will last!!

Also - that’s not me in the photo Grin

There are ways to figure out what kind of scratcher your cat is & how to coax them to be less likely to attack your carpet & more likely to scratch up something you want them to.

You need to figure out if they like stretching up or along. Mine like horizontal raised ledges; our stairs have suffered badly. But mostly the cats use the flat scratch beds I made, like this one, but 50% bigger and heavy so they can't pull it around. My worst carpet destroyer needs a scratch soon as he wakes up or before/after meals so the boards are put near where he sleeps & eats.

Our two barely use their tree now! We got a fairly cheap one with the view that if they use it lots we can upgrade. As kittens they used it a fair bit. Now they're about to turn one, girl cat sleeps in the little round bed occasionally and boy cat doesn't go near it. So I'm glad we didn't spend a fortune! I think we'll replace it eventually with a decent scratch post/ pad.

For scratch pads check out zooplus, we have many different ones from there. They have the smaller one of this there is many different style and cheap compared to shops

Mine have a set of steps from Kalven. Pricey but they absolutely love them and they fit in the room perfectly.

Mine is a couple of foot from the ceiling. It was under 50 quid from eBay.

I've been looking at IKEA cat hacks and think I'm going to do something with a roll of sisal rope, a glue gun and a step stool. Yesterday the cat climbed on one of the branches of our cat tree and snapped it.

We had 2 large cats that were forever tipping over scratch posts. We ended up buying them an Ancol Fat Boy (well it looks similar). It was high enough them to stretch, but it is virtually impossible to tip over. More importantly it is really robust and has lasted for ages.

We are getting new kittens at half term and I have spent/wasted so much time looking at IKEA hacks.
