Someone brought the pigeon in through the cat flap and it wasn't the dog!

Mine are determined to bring down a squirrel that claims our garden.

That would be really really bad news wouldn't it , those blighters are as sharp toothed as the cats are .

This morning our female was in stalk mode , stealth shimmying along the path. The squirrel was in the tree , but Fat Pigeon was on the path................
I opened the door to scare them (squirrel/pigeon) , she glared at me all "Well just be grateful I've had brekkie and I don't NEED to kill them "

Here is my old lady, I don't have many that she actually shows up in as her blackness is a photograph detail vacuum!

I know @SoupDragon. I find it heartbreaking that black cats are, apparently, the hardest to find homes for, or to re-home. Apparently it's because they are hard to photograph

But all the photos here are testament to the fact that it simply isn't true.

They are certainly harder to photograph than paler cats, especially indoors in dim lighting, but it's not impossible. I think they're "unlucky" too due to superstition. These are my second pair of black cats (and they've certainly been unlucky for the local wildlife!)

Wouldn't worry too much about squirrels - my parents' cat used to bring them in (mind you she was a psychotic killing machine - she'd kill and bring in rats that were bigger than she was).

The photography thing with black cats is interesting. Basil is easy to get good photos of but Karl and Lenny are much more difficult.

However here are a couple of my recent efforts.

Feel very guilty for not realising that Saturday had been Black Cat Day. Here is my belated offering showing my big rescue Tom. I LOVE black cats, my absolute favourite!!

I especially like it when he sleeps like in the middle photo, where it looks like he's hanging on to himself around his own back legs and tucking like a high diver!

grumpy basil looks a lot especially in the 2nd photo as my girl when she was younger although slightly different face.

Yes you are right we have been blessed with stunning felines!

Amazingly I got her because she was the only black cat in the litter and the runt so no one wanted her! I feel in love with her and over the last 16 years she has become the most beautiful lovely natured cat Iv ever known!

Black cats are The Best.

Unfortunately, because I've never been fortunate to have to pay good money for my collection of rejects and halfwits, I've never actually had a black cat since my best cat as a five to seventeen year old.

DP, happily, is 100% behind the replacements for the current DTwatCats when they shuffle off this mortal coil (or in DTwatCat #1's case, probably expire in a freakishly expensive and improbable set of circumstances) being two little black kittens, as he adored his kitten that his vicious bitch ex dumped at an undisclosed shelter a week after she left him

MitziK if you do go for 2 little black cats (and yes , black cats are The Best) prepare to be permenantly confused and bedazzled .
Our two has enough differences to tell them apart .
They move differently .
She's chunkier
He has a more pointed face

But when we see a black cat tear into the house , or in the middle of the night , telling them apart is tough.

We did their spot-treatment , DH picked up A Cat , we both thought it was him, turned out to be her . Then caught him, I'm saying "Are you sure ? Check for the greasy neck, I'm not double dosing one"

When we took them to the vet (he was being treated but she went as his BodyGuard) , I put a ribbon on his carrier so I didn't wrestle the wrong cat out .

They had a sibling who had been rehomed before them , I wonder if we'd have been brave enough for 3 black cats?
