Alternative to Advocate?

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 14/08/2019 19:10

I currently use Advocate monthly with 3 monthly Droncit for my 2 cats. Dcat is fine with both but Dkitten HATES the Advocate - she reacts as if it is burning her skin and won’t let me near her for a good while after I give it. She’s fine with the Droncit - she’ll do anything for food so it’s easy to hide. Is there a pill that will act against the same parasites as the spot on treatment? I think it would be less traumatic to just pill her!

Thanks

Alternative to Advocate?

Options:

  • "Bravecto plus", spot on every 3 months, then droncit as usual.
  • "comfortis" tablets monthly , they only do fleas, so you would need to swap to a milbemycin based wormer every 3 months e.g milbemax

Thanks...is milbemax oral or spot on?

Where would you get the tablets. My cat also hates spot ons but he will eat anything if it’s in tuna.

Milbemax is a tablet I think

dementedpixie · 14/08/2019 19:36

Vet should sell the tablets

LuckyKitty13 · 14/08/2019 20:05

Yes tablets, from the vet

Vinorosso74 · 14/08/2019 21:33

Milbemax is a worm tablet it doesn't treat fleas.
We used to use Stronghold until our vets stopped stocking it for no reason (except they were sold). That is similar to Advocate but I find the Advocate has more liquid in the vial. I preferred the Stronghold as it was quicker to apply and seemed to cause less drama!
I don't like the look of the Seresto collars as they look a bit dangerous so would avoid them.

Oops sorry I misread about the Milbemax-ignore my comment on that.

Would it be worth trying a different spot on? We use Bravecto Plus on Harry and Profender every 6-12 months for worms.
