Tom cat and cat flap

I am after some advice I have just moved house and had a microchip cat flap installed for my 3 cats. The boys use it fine but my female cat won’t use it and I think it is because of a tom cat that has been hanging around. She has used them before at the last house but now she won’t use this one. Any suggestions on how to get her to use the flap dh wants rid of the litter trays.

Well if she doesn't want to go outside to the toilet then the problem isn't the flap. It's always better to provide a litter tray as often cats don't want to go out - maybe because of other cats in the garden, or because it's raining, or the ground is frozen, or just because they don't feel like it.

So you should not be aiming to remove the tray.

As TCN says it is not the flap it is the fact that she doesn't want to get beaten up whilst she is having a wee - who can blame her.

We still have a tray, your dh wouldn’t want to go out there if he was going to get attacked either.

We've kept our tray as it is still used very occasionally. I wouldn't want to go inside to pee if I thought I was going to get attacked either
