Neighbours cat broken our cat flap

We have always had a 4 way cat flap and our cats have always been locked in at night. In the summer they often stay out late so we put the cat flap on 'in only' when we go to bed.

About a month ago we saw the cat flap had been forced through and there was stuff knocked over. Fortunately we had cctv in that room and when we watched it back we saw it was next doors new cat panicking because it was locked in a different house and breaking out.

We hoped that would have stopped the cat coming in again but no it has done it three times and now has broken the cat flap.

So how to stop it happening again?

We have thought about a magnetic cat flap but our cats have never had collars.

How about a chip activated cat flap?

Cheguevarahamster · 11/08/2019 08:32

If you're cats are chipped then you can get a micro chip cat flap. It works brilliantly.

mollpop · 11/08/2019 08:32

Microchip catflap

FunnyHappyGirl · 11/08/2019 08:34

Definitely microchip activated is the way to go.

If you don't mind spending the money you can get a WiFi enabled one that you can control a curfew or give different cats different restrictions etc.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 11/08/2019 08:35

There's microchip responsive ones. That would work.

lorisparkle · 11/08/2019 08:36

Wow! I had no idea you could get a chip activated one! They sound amazing!

Thanks!

He's not a Bengal known to locals as 'TC' is he?

dementedpixie · 11/08/2019 09:57

We have a microchip one too so no need for a collar

ThinkWittyThoughts · 11/08/2019 10:58

Microchip all the way.

lorisparkle · 11/08/2019 11:47

I have just checked out TC and no, this is a small black and white cat who is rather brazen! Our cats are bemused but not bothered by it. We initially thought the mess was due to them fighting but no our cats just watch it search for a way out of the conservatory!

This is why I could never have a cat flap that isn’t microchip activated- my neighbours cat has regularly tried to get through ours - but has thankfully never succeeded.

Wolfiefan · 12/08/2019 22:23

Phew. Glad it wasn’t one of our demented torties. Blush

seasideramble · 12/08/2019 22:25

definitely a micro chip cat flap

PestoCaffeinisto · 12/08/2019 22:25

You need a Sureflap

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 12/08/2019 22:27

I never knew you could get WiFi microchip cat flaps. Love the idea of setting it so that unknown cats could get out if they'd inadvertently been locked in.

I don't actually have a cat, I kinda feel like I might need a microchip cat flap just so that I can exploit it for cat cuddles. Set it to let in Unknown felines, but not out again... Grin

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 12/08/2019 22:33

I have a microchip cat flap with WiFi
It’s quite entertaining as my phone meows whenever a cat uses the flap! I had to turn off the notifications as my phone kept meowing at work
My Persian won’t use the flap, it makes quite a loud click. She’s quite stupid thou
