Cat not himself?

Just looking for advice. Since yesterday evening my cat doesn’t seem himself. He usually starts fussing for his dinner about 6pm but was hiding upstairs under the bed. Didn’t come when I shouted but eventually came down about 8pm. Put his dinner out and he didn’t touch it. I tried to pick him up and he let out a high pitched squeak? He’s been using his litter tray as normal. This morn I put his breakfast out and he didn’t touch it. Gave him some tinned tuna which he ate. I picked him up this morn and he let me no problem but he’s hiding under the bed again now. I don’t know, he just doesn’t seem right to me. Should I wait and see how he is or is it worth while taking him to the vet?

I'd take him now.

I think it is a case of knowing your cat if you feel something is wrong take them to the vet. My cat does this when there are strangers in the house or other cats in his territory so I don't worry. But if it is unusual for your cat he could be unwell.

If any of mine was like that I would call vet's as soon as they open. As you know it's out of ordinary for your cat, you know something is wrong.
Have you taken him?

I'm sure someone said this on another thread similar and it was down to poisoning. Not that it will be! But it's best to get checked ASAP!x

Thanks folks, got an appointment at 6, it’s the earliest they could see us. He’s ate some more tuna this morn so hoping that’s a good sign. Hope to god not poisoning, he’s a house cat so can’t think of anything he could have come in contact with

Oh dear, sounds like he could be in pain. Good you're getting him seen, hope he is ok!

My cat was acting like this and it turned out to be (mild) pancreatitis. Hope you have insurance

Yes we have insurance thank god, I know these things can be very costly! Hope to god he’s ok, he’s still under the bed but letting me reach under and pet him no bother. Was talking to one of my neighbours who said maybe a trapped hairball?

Well he said my cat is under weight, tho he did say I am feeding him enough. He also said he couldn’t see anything immediately obvious, tho one of his eyes has started to get a slight red/orange tinge at certain bits of the iris (his eyes are yellowy green). He seemed quite concerned about this. I’ve got tablets to give him and I’ve to take him back in a week to be weighed again. If he doesn’t gain weight he will have to be out to sleep for more tests. I’m having a nightmare with the tablets. One of them I crushed and put in tuna and I think he took it all but there’s another one which is impossible to crush, I tried to hide it in his food but he was too clever and ate around it, I’m struggling with trying to pry is mouth open to get it in x

Try a pill popper thing. I used to get 4 tablets down the late Fatty in one go with it. (Though she was an exceptionally well behaved cat)
