Help - Cat and new baby!

Hi all

I rescued two cats last year (sisters). They settled in well although one of them, Arwen, occasionally peed randomly around the house. A couple of times she peed on our bed and once in the lounge.

We have 3 litter trays, all cleaned regularly.

We have since had a baby. Both girls haven't paid any attention to the baby and everything has been fine. Baby is now 7 months and Arwen has now peed on the play mat, pram and tonight she did the car seat (fools error on our part for now locking it away!!).

I love my cats dearly but cat pee is so hard to get out and she's ruining everything.

She's been checked out at the vets and there are no medical issues.

Does anyone have any advice please? I've tried orange products, vinegar, bicarbonate of soda etc.

Try a pet remedy diffuser or feliway in case it's stress. Zyklene on food might also help. When I had an issue with one of mine peeing on the sofa, I found the sprays completely useless and only physically blocking the area stopped it.

I second the Feliway/Pet Remedy/Zyklene in case of stress.
Biological laundry liquid is what you need for cleaning up the pee. The enzymes in it break down the pee smell. A cheap one will do but for the sake of your nostrils find a less heavily perfumed one.
Are the cats getting along ok with each other?

The girls get along fine with each other. They're both very different, Arwen is friendly and loves fuss and Nala is more timid but she's come such a long way in the last 18 months.

You need an enzyme cleaner to really get the smell off or she'll go to the same spots again. I've used one called Urine Off from ZooPlus but there are others.

Also second the Zylkene, there's also Feliway Cystease capsules which might work even better for this situation (sprinkled on food).

Do the cats have access to the outdoors?
Do they have areas where they can go away from baby - a quieter part of the home?

I had the late Fatty on Zyklene and cystease at one point. She was so zonked out I had to stop the cystease!

Mines on two cystease a day, I wish it would zonk him out.

They were indoor cats when we rescued them, we live on a very busy road so it suited us. They have the whole house and usually take up sanctuary in my wardrobe (no accidents in there so far!) so they do have space to get away.

Arwen was like this before the baby but it was random places, now it just seems like it's all the baby stuff.

Maybe she is trying to claim the baby as hers?!Sorry not helpful I know...
I have to say I'm glad you're trying to find a solution rather than get rid of the cat which a lot of people do once there's a baby. I hope you find a solution.

We had this problem with our cats when we had new baby. They peed and poor. Tried everything and we ended up just not letting them in the main part of the house, just kitchen and utility area in the end. Wasn't going to have cat pee and poo all over our home.
