What’s wrong with my cat’s ear?

I’ve just collected my cat from the cattery, and he is as happy as Larry, but I’ve noticed a little “V” shaped groove on his ear that wasn’t there before. It looks otherwise normal, and he had his ears checked about a month ago at the vet when having his booster. He’s 2, and neutered. He has been to this cattery quite a few times and always seems happy there. Has anyone seen this before?

Mine has this but I just assumed she'd caught her ear on the barbed wire fences in the field opposite. Strange that he got it while in a cattery...

I'm not aware of anything else that would do this other than an injury...

You see it on feral cats sometimes as they are given an ear notch when they've been trapped, neutered/spayed and returned so it's easily identified that they've been 'done' but obviously that's not relevant to either of our cats.

TNR are ear tipped, the tip of the ear removed, this more likes an injury barbed wire or cat fight. It may have been a scan when you went away and then fell off revealing new ear edge.

All my cats have always ended up with ragged edges to their ears. I always assumed it was through fighting other cats.

Thanks everyone, I’m hoping it has happened before he went into the cattery, though I’m sure I would have noticed. The cattery is really lovely, all the cats have their own “rooms” with pictures, cat tree etc, he seems to like it ok.

One of mine has this. The culprit was her sister. They had a proper full on fight because there was a strange cat in the garden. I found the blood, but took ages to notice the nick.

Doesn't look new. It looks well healed.
