Help - the cats have escaped

So I’m cat sitting this weekend, the plan was that I’d pop in twice a day to give them food, water, and play.
But I went round this morning and I couldn’t find the cats. One of the upstairs windows was open and I’m worried they’ve escaped.
My friends have only recently moved to the house so the cats were still being kept indoors.
I’ve left my long suffering husband there most of the day and no signs of the cats. There’s no cat flap so if we’re not there the cats can’t get back in.
Any advice on how to attract the cats back to the house and get them inside? They don’t know us so I don’t know if us being there is good or not. But I don’t want to leave windows open as someone could break in 😱

They could still be hiding somewhere. Litter tray contents might bring them home. How long until the owners get back?

Thanks for the handy tips, I’ll try putting a few of their bits outside. They’re back tomorrow evening so not long. I just worry about them being outside overnights with no where to go 😟

You need to start leaving food outside regularly regardless of whether or not you see them. It could take a few days but hopefully they will appear.

Did the owners leave the window open? If so they were bloody stupid.

Do you know how far away they lived before? The cats could be trying to go back there...

Also make sure owners know they are missing, and if they are microchipped, they need to report them as missing to the chip company.

Why on Earth was a window left open when the house was empty.

Mine escaped when we were on holiday.

They managed to open the kitchen window.
