Poop next to clean tray- why?

My oldest cat has weed on and off recently in bags/ shoes if her tray was anything other than pristine (ie unused with new litter)
We’ve complied and clean it all the time now but she’s also now started to poo randomly even if it’s clean. Tonight she pooed right next to it on the floor. Why? Why? What can I do?

My older cat now also does this, waiting for answers.

Maybe she’s just got dementia. Fine otherwise and very vocal about hunger and wanting cuddles

Have you seen it as it was happening? If it’s because the cat is standing in the tray (just) but their butt is over the edge then an enclosed tray might help.

We’ve had wee around the open tray but not around the enclosed one.

LittleLongDog · 09/07/2019 22:16

Or maybe she’s got even fussier and wants one tray for wees and another for poos?

Because cats are assholes 😂

My old mog used to 'miss' sometimes.
Have a look at the litter to see if they are actually getting in to poo or not.

I didn’t hear the rustle of the litter. I think she literally stood by it rather than missing

Have you changed the litter recently? If so, she might not like the new stuff. Or she might have gone off what you have been using. My old cat did this towards the end of her life.

Maybe so. She went most of the time when we went to wood based but not always so switched back to gravel. Will get more wood stuff. She also always pukes on be carpet not the wood floor. Asshole!

Try the ultra clumping, it’s very soft on old paws.
