My old boy is booked into vets on Friday to be pts. He's 19 & his liver is failing and I just know it's time. It's been time for a week or so but I can't bear to let him go. I've been crying on and off all week and I know I'm being selfish keeping him for this last week as he's ready now. I just can't bear it.

Hand hold. It's horrible. But I found great comfort in cuddling my girl, it was incredibly peaceful and dignified for her. The vet was lovely.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/07/2019 20:43

It's the most loving thing you can do for him.

SaintAlice · 03/07/2019 20:46

I have this coming at me at some point. You've loved and taken care of him for a long time - your responsibility to him doesn't stop here 💐

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 03/07/2019 20:47

Thank you. I've seen animals pts before in one of my old jobs but i can't bear the thought of it with my own & I hate making the decision. I'm going to miss him so much.

Do him a quick bucket list.
Cuddles on fav chair.
Salmon for tea.
Photo shoot in the garden.
Prawns for supper.
Lots of reminiscing.
Lots of love.

Such a horrible decision to have to make. Hugs for you and the old boy. What a sad time.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 03/07/2019 20:50

Yes he's doing all his most favourite things this week. He's not getting any joy from them though - except the cuddles and he still loves them.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 03/07/2019 20:50

@Trans thank you x

Poor boy. I bet you've been an amazing mum and given him the best life ever, full of love, cuddles and happiness.

TheLongRider · 03/07/2019 21:35

Hand hold from here. You are doing your best for him and you.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 03/07/2019 21:48

That's so sad, Georgie.
I had my old mistermog pts in November of last year and still miss him terribly.
But, I know it was the right decision, and I'm at peace with the fact that I could do it for a pet that I truly loved and needed to let go, for his sake as well as mine.
I believe you're doing a wonderful thing in recognising when a life is not a happy one, and making a brave decision about it:
Huge sympathy to you. Thanks

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 04/07/2019 07:49

@mineofuselessinformation they break our hearts don't they but you're right, 19 years of unconditional love and wonderful memories.

Heart goes out to you, had to let our old boy (19 too) go 3 months ago and tears still prick just thinking about it. Big hug to you and big bad bin cat. Flowers Flowers

Supersimpkin · 04/07/2019 22:44

Thinking of you both, you poor poor girl Flowers.

It's the last act of love.

EmmaC78 · 04/07/2019 22:47

Thinking of you. It is a sad time when you have to let them go Flowers

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/07/2019 22:55
Flowers You're doing it for him. He's telling you now that it's time .

Be with him , be the last thing he sees .
It's the price the owner pays for having these lovely animals in our lives , but it makes it a tiny bit easier to know its the right thing to do.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 05/07/2019 07:40

Today's the day. I couldn't sleep. I got up early to have more time. He's had some fish for breakfast and is now sunning himself on his blanket in the garden. I can't believe it.

I'll be thinking of you today. Hugs xxx

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 05/07/2019 12:26

Thank you everyone your comments have been comforting. He is gone. My heart is broken. But I also feel a sense of relief for him. Now to mourn.

I'm so sorry Georgie Sad

do you have a photo of him you can upload on here?

Toddlerteaplease · 05/07/2019 12:45

Very sorry. He sounds like he had a wonderful life with you. One day you'll be able to remember him with a smile, instead of tears.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/07/2019 12:45

I'm so sorry. I would love to see a photo of him when you are ready (if you don't mind) Flowers
