Cats vs foxes

Just a bit worried, we have a cat who spends most of his time outdoors (rural area) and there were two foxes out on the patio this evening after the cat had come in. They were quite bold, didn't run away when we knocked on the window but did leave when I went outdoors. Would they pose a threat to the cat?

No never had a problem with foxes and my cats. I have two rabbits that live outside and Ive watched a fox walk right past them. Occasionally they poo on top of their run too! Guess they find enough food without having to kill anything.

Foxes and cats generally peacefully co exist. We did have a cat who was quite friendly with foxes and when they had cubs, used to go up and lick them! Another cat would scare them away from his territory (he is quite a big cat). I no longer have foxes in my garden, or rarely, since I stopped feeding them for various reasons.

I wouldn't worry although a little kitten might be a different matter, as would a rabbit.

Thanks, that's reassuring. The cat could hear them outside and seemed a little spooked so we've kept him in for now but we'll have to let him out tomorrow.

A while ago, one of my aunts bought a weekend property that had bern abandoned for quite some time and had been taken over by a fox. “Foxy” and my aunt’s cat became friends immediately and there is now a fox family living on the property. They all get along wonderfully. The first picture was taken when my aunt had just bought the property and found her cat and the fox hanging out together. The second picture was taken a few weeks ago.

We have foxes round us and our cats and the foxes coexist peacefully - I have seen Basil and one fox in pretty close proximity and suspect they may be chums.
However a friend did lose their very elderly female cat to a fox - sadly they saw it happen - so don't assume foxes are completely cat friendly.

CharlieAlphaTango will punch a fox in the face despite being scared of other cats.

Lovely photos Mia, cat spent quite a while this morning sniffing all around the garden and rubbing his face on everything. I'll keep an eye out this evening in case they return but I'm less worried now, thanks all.

We live in a city. Foxes have their den in a railway embankment nearby. One approached Evencat and regretted it - the cat's spitting and snarling scared the fox away. A vet told me that he would "back" an adult cat against a fox.
