One or two kittens

Rehoming a kitten soon having lost out much loved old cat last year. We are 2 adults, 8 year old and 12 year old and a 10 year old very loving, very excitable, Betty stupid cocker spaniel.

I’m wondering whether we’d be better getting one kitten or two? I’ve asked the rehoming centre and they’ve said its up to us really.

Any advice?

Two! I was a little unsure when we got ours to be honest but it was definitely the right decision. They play together, sleep together etc. It's lovely. Plus I don't feel so guilty about the odd day when we're out longer than usual as I know they're not alone.

Just to add, ours are brother and sister from the same litter. We got them both neutered as early as possible.

2 could be more interested in eachother than you, makes for very cute photos but may cut down on being a lap cat, 1 would need more human interaction which could be a problem if the house is empty for more of the day.

We have 11 cats, we have brought in pretty much every combination, singles demand more attention from us while settling and thus are more cuddly longer term, doubles are now more independent and just require us to open the door and cat tins. Girls in general (for us) are less affectionate, and our boys are the lap cats, the doubles needed neutering early to stop power struggles, singles have no-one to argue with.

Two. They are more likely to stay closer to home if there are two. I rescued 2 brothers and although one did wander quite a bit, he always came back because his brother was around.

Two is of course double the bills, but - as everyone else has said - they will entertain each other, which when they're small and you might be out during the day, is really important.

I got my two monsters from a rescue place - they're brother and sister and I made a point of finding out which kittens in the litter got on best with each other. They still sleep on top of each other but have outgrown the throne these day!

We've got two, only ever had one at a time before and two is SO much better. They play together but are still really affectionate with us. Our cocker spaniel was scared of them to start with. Attacking the feathery bits on her very waggy tail is their main aim in life at the moment!

Toddlerteaplease · 02/07/2019 15:22

I had two identical sister. They weren't keen o. Each other but co existed. New cat gets on with my remaining cat much better. Yep is definitely twice as nice abs no double trouble!

HedgeSparrow · 02/07/2019 15:35

Two boys - in my experience neutered male cats are likely to be gentler both to each other and their owners!

Definitely 2, you won’t regret it when you see the love they have for each other!

I was going to get 2 to be company for each other.

We got 3 as I couldn’t separate the litter 💕 3 lovely girls 😁
