DD's beloved cat being PTS today

DH and I bought Toby for DD's 21st birthday. He was the first cat our family had ever had. He was a kitten when we got him and he taught me to love cats very, very much.

Fast-forward fifteen years and DH have moved 500 miles away from DD and her family.

She rang me two days ago to tell me that Toby had suddenly developed extreme fluid retention which the vet felt was due to cancer somewhere. It was untreatable and Toby was suffering.

Toby is fifteen now and the whole family love him so much.

Today at 3pm DD and her DH are taking Toby to be PTS.
I can't bear it. I won't even be able to see them. It feels like the end of an era.

Ohh, Jemima, I'm so so sorry. He's family and it's so hard, isn't it? 💐

@SingingLily

Thank you. I've had three cats of my own since we moved to Scotland and one had to be PTS a couple of years ago.

I know how dreadful it is.

I am utterly heartbroken about Toby. He taught me to love cats. I hope that doesn't sound silly.

Not silly at all, Jemima232. They're experts at snuggling their furry feline way into our hearts. Our two are Senior Boys now, aged 19, a bit shaky of paw and a bit confused (except when it comes to the location of their food bowls) and I'm dreading the day.

Toby is a much loved cat and you will all miss him dreadfully. I'll be thinking of him, and you.
