Fostering my cat while on holiday

Hi, I'm going on honeymoon in December, for maybe 3-4 weeks and I'm trying to put plans in place for minding my kitten. She will be almost 12 months old by then.

Here is what I'm thinking:
Cat goes to a sitter's house for approx 2 weeks (short trials before then). The sitter has no other pets.
A friend stays in for 3-4 days in our house to take care of her
Neighbors (that adore her) drop in on her for the rest.

It's really stressing me out. Has anyone ever given their car to another house while they are away? How will they feel? Will she hate us when we get back?
Any advice, words of wisdom or reassurance welcome.

I love her to death! Hate leaving her.... I'm absolutely torn!

No to all the chopping and changing. Either the sitter has her for the full time or someone stays with her at home for the whole time.

Book her into a cattery!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/06/2019 11:46

Just put her in a cattery, you'll be able to relax and not worry about her. She'll be fine. Do your research and find a good one.

@toddlerteaplease what is the difference between a good one and a bad one? For me I want her to be played with and loved while I'm gone. Will she get that?

The one mine stay in do play with them. The 'chalets' are really big. Mine write down what they do with them every day, but I understand that's not usual. The one I use has full time staff that work in the cattery. One of them absolutely adores my girls. And I had a lovely card when one of them died. The girls are not pleased to see me when I come to pick them up. And do not want to come out of their heated bed. They also post pictures on Facebook

It's expensive at £20 a day but worth it.

bubblesforlife · 19/06/2019 13:52

They aren't by any chance based around London @toddlerteaplease

I'm afraid not. It's called Lime grove and it's in Nottinghamshire. It takes me ages to get there, but so worth it!

If you are North London/Hertfordshire I’ve just had a fab sitter come around to meet my two. At the moment she’s slerping at someone’s house for three weeks. She’s really, really keen and older so I’m hoping we will have no mishaps I get a good vibe from her. Sadly my Cattery has been sold and I’m gutted but there is a new ultra posh one in Totteridge where they have daily massages. I’m just not paying £35 a night for that. Let me know and I can send you more details,

Hi @eachandeveryone, i'm not North London but don't mind traveling for the right person. Could you send me more details? :)

There are pet sitters who care for your pet in return for free accomodation at your house. They are all vetted etc. Cats protection advertised one of them a while ago but I can't for the life of me recall their exact name (there are obviously lots of companies with similar sounding names)

I imagine if you are in London then you will have a decent bit of interest in people wanting the gig?

www.amyspetservices.co.uk/ she seems lovely you could always ask if she covers your area

Tensixtysix · 20/06/2019 11:07

People can go to your house and look after pets. You don't even have to pay them! They are vetted and just need somewhere to stay.

Do catterys like show affection to cats? Like cuddles and that? (Such a rookie Q I know). But I want her to be loved as much as possible.

Thats why you need to ask around how does anyone know really? Did you ever think about getting two? This is the main reason i got a second one. My cattery locked up in the day until tea time and i think thats normal. Didnt Other me as they were outside in a huge pen. The links i put on here both have good reviews and I’ll be getting a sitter in from Wednesday. Have got a friend that can live at yours for three weeks and pay for a catsitter to go in daily as well as?

Pepperama · 23/06/2019 22:18

Our older cat much prefers to stay home so we leave the heating on and pay a pet sitter to come twice a day. She stays a while for a play and a cuddle. You’d need someone reliable you trust with a key.
