Both cats not eating?! Help!

QuickQuestion2019 · 12/06/2019 06:42

Both my cats have stopped eating. Girl tabby has been off her food since Sunday and Boy Black cat went off his yesterday. They ask for food, the same food they always have, then don't eat!!!

They seem quieter in themselves although girl cat has been out all night (very normal for her). Virus? Getting fed elsewhere?

Tried posh food - no interest.

They are 2.5 year old rescues and this is there first year with us. I'm getting worried- they are my eldest's emotional support cats since DH died (kids 4 and 8). In my head something awful is wrong with them.

Try new bowls?

Get new packs of their usual food? Maybe a pack/batch was off?

Do there bellies feel full? Keep them in if they go outside

As an afterthought have you changed the way you wash your cat bowls?

confussedmisfit · 12/06/2019 06:58

If out all night it's most likely they have found/caught an animal and have eaten it and it hasn't quite agreed with them.
Most likely a vole or a shrew as it's their season for young ones to leave their nests.

An actual voles defence mechanism is it tastes awful. It can make a cat vomit. Pretty crap if you think about it.

Equally they could be getting fed elsewhere, a massive hate of mine.
But the fact you say they wish to be left alone makes me think it's the former.

Give it a couple of days and see how they are.

QuickQuestion2019 · 12/06/2019 07:13

They are not really eating their biscuits either or alternative food, so I could try a new batch but I don't think that's the issue. They both hunt so catching their food is certainly possible. The tabby definitely has several other friendly homes on the street but I'm not sure if they feed her. Black cat did a very small amount of vomit yesterday but nothing since.

@slipperywhensparticus how would I tell if bellies full? I did give them both a good prod to check for pain but no reaction.

Honestly it's like they are depressed/on hunger strike.

The dry food doesn't happen to be go-cat does it??

Our cats have completely gone off go-cat. It's been two weeks and they aren't touching there biscuits, which is very unlike them. I'm wondering if it's a recipe change.

QuickQuestion2019 · 12/06/2019 07:35

It's whiskars...

Maybe try a good quality grain free food rather than whiskas

dementedpixie · 12/06/2019 13:58

You want a food with meat as the first ingredient, not cereal

ifonly4 · 12/06/2019 14:15

Just wondering if some cooked chicken would tempt them?

dementedpixie · 12/06/2019 14:52

My 2 are very fussy with wet food, 1 more than the other. He rubs round my legs then sniffs the food and walks away! I have tried several brands and give different foods at different meals. Currently on gourmet solitaire tins, those wee sheba fresh choice pouches and gourmet perle pouches.

I give thrive dry (90% meat) or encore dry (80% meat)

QuickQuestion2019 · 12/06/2019 15:55

Thanks all for replies. I bought some felix on way home and they both had some as well as few dreamies. Still far from their normal selves though. Tried Sheba, they weren't keen.

So odd. Until the weekend they ate more or less anything. They've both been out today roaming so they can't feel too awful??
