Cat with swollen chin?

One of my cats is sporting a rather swollen chin this morning...see pics which have hopefully posted.

I've noticed a tiny bit pink around his mouth (thought it was his lip) for the past week or so and at the weekend someone else commented on him sticking his tongue out, but seeing this today makes me think it was building up to this.

He's still eating, doesn't appear to be in any pain. Has shown a penchant for chasing bees in recent weeks...

Any ideas what it could be?

Abcess, teeth issue? I'd see the vet

ErichVonStalheim · 05/06/2019 08:12

A bee or a wasp sting was my first thought.

Vinorosso74 · 05/06/2019 08:30

I also think a visit to the vet is needed.

Annoyingly he's not a terribly cuddly cat so I can't actually get close enough to see whether it's a tooth issue but suspect that's more likely given the progression (a sting would come and go more quickly i think?). Hoping to get to the vet later today in any case.

It definitely looks like an abscess. My cat had one last year in much the same place. The vet carefully popped it (she said it would have been causing him pain even if he wasn't showing it) and said that provided I kept the site bathed and clean for a few days, it would heal just fine. I used a weak solution of liquid Dettol and water and he recovered quickly. I hope yours does too.

Mine had a sting recently on his face and it had gone down within an hour or two if that's helpful. (I saw it happen so know it was a bee sting).

Just back from the vet - most likely a sting but combined with a bit of gingivitis causing additional inflammation. Now fully dosed up with antihistamines and anti-inflammatories so should be all fine within a few days. He's not happy about taking tablets though!!

I am in Germany and when I had to give my cat antibiotics, I covered it with tiny bits of Leberwurst so that she could just swallow the whole thing. Pate has a similar texture to Leberwurst - maybe it could work with your cat?

P.S. Best wishes to your cat - he looks gorgeous!

Mine had this and it was acne.
