Unplanned kittens

A while ago we decided to let our three cats live out their lives and no longer adopt any more. I had come to terms with this, and the youngest is only five, so figured if we were lucky we'd still have a good 15 years of feline company.

6 weeks ago, a local stray (abandoned when neighbours moved away and left her) decided to have three kittens under our bed (while we were in it). Anyway, long story short we now have 7 cats.

I am currently stuck under two of the most recent models. The horror. Also, have some extra kittie photos.

We had a cat who was given a few weeks to live, a couple of days after the diagnosis a friends cat had 2=kittens. She told me that they were black and long haired, which is something I’ve always wanted so I agreed to go and see. They were neither black nor long haired but dd fell in love with the runt and I though it would ease existing cats departure for her so I said ok. Went to collect the kitten a couple of days later and found that someone who was supposed to be taking the other kitten had changed their mind - we could hardly leave one could we?
Subsequently old cat who had “weeks to live” happily survived for 2 years
DH was away on business and I had phoned him to tell him that by the time he got home we would probably be cat-less. We had 3!!!

When they were born we said we'd try and get them adopted, a few people were interested but I wasn't in too much of a rush as said people weren't suitable, one lives on a very busy road and the other wanted a 100% outdoor cat as a mouser. We originally said we'd keep one, but couldn't agree on which one, so they're all staying (mum has since been neutered and chipped btw).

Floofy Feet

Were going away for two weeks this summer, DDog is going to DMs house where he will probably put on an extra 50% of his own body weight in fat. Pre unplanned babies, a colleague was going to come over every three days just to check up on the oldies (who are all very autonomous), but that obviously wouldn't be sufficient for the kittens. I've asked the 17 year old neighbour if he will come in daily to check on them and change all the litter trays when needed, I've asked if he can stay for a bit in the evenings every couple of days (said he can stick something on Netflix) just to keep them company. I've offered €100 for the two weeks, not sure if that's reasonable or not.

They are clearly very unhappy.

£100 for 2 weeks is about £7 a day

My DS will be looking after DBro cat and thinks you are being generous (he's Cat Sitting for free , but I think my DBro will give him something + food etc)

I hope it will motivate him to do a good job! I didn't think about snacks though, he literally lives on the other side of the (tiny) road, should I stock up before I leave?

I would suggest stocking up on a lot of snacks. Teenage boy is kind of synonymous with "bottomless pit" - at least it was in our house.

I have a teenage boy, but he's a bit weird, as doesn't eat much. I'll ask cat sitter what he likes to graze on.
