Very Confident New Kitten

Have a 16 week old Maine Coon, who has been with us for 2 weeks. It has been 9 years since I have had a kitten, but blimey, it is harder work than I remember.

He has no fear. We cant let him roam yet as there are too many plants and open banisters, where he can fall 2 floors. He goes straight to the banisters to jump through or balance on.

He wants to get to the skylights, spends a lot of time trying to get to our bedroom ceiling light from the bed, just about wants to do anything where he will get hurt. My other cats weren't like this. He'll be out the 3 storey windows if we forget they are open.

He runs around like a crazy thing ( DD 7 spends hours playing with him).

When do they carm down and when would you let him around the house? We carry him from room to room.

Just bought a kitten harness to see if he wants to get use to going outside, forgetting I was buying for a Maine Coon. Far to small!

I tried a harness with my kittens - it was like walking a leopard on a piece of string. They spent most of the time airborne.
Watching this post with interest GrinGrin

Another harness casualty here too, he didn’t like it but it was pink diamanté.

Not sure what size to get now. He will go outside but I want to introduce him slowly. I feel like I am babying this kitten, but I think my German Shepherd did the hard work with our last. I dont have her to help this time.

Someone looks so chilled (and lovely)!

I found it a bit stressful getting kittens for the second time, but then I grew to love their antics. Nine months on, things have calmed down quite a lot.

Will my kitten stop balancing on the banister? He can fall a whole floor from there. We cant let him roam around as he just wants to play balancing on the banister, but he wobbles!

My experience is that both kittens and cats love to balance on railings and bannisters and you will never stop them. I think they do it just to wind us up.
Cute kitten btw Grin.

With apologies for my extra 'n' in banister - no idea where that came from.

He's very cute! My kitten was mental, always wanted to be as high as he could. He's just over 1 now and recently jumped out of an upstairs bedroom window so he's still just as mental. We use a harness with a retractable lead but he just wraps the lead around plants and bushes.
