Problem with pooing?

My girl has problems with her anal glands. Unusual for a cat but not unheard of. She goes to the vets and has them sorted every so often.

A couple of days ago I was in the garden when she was having a poo. I noticed that she seems to hold herself in an unusual position when pooing. Rather than sitting like she does for a wee she was almost crouching, rather like a dog. She had her tail up in the air and she seemed to be straining.

Is this the normal pooing position for a cat? I can’t say that I spend much time observing them?

Totally normal. Mine both sit for a wee, but crouch & strain for a poo and are in perfect health according to the vet. I think it's because if they crouch weeing it will splash, but if they sit to have a poo it will get in their furry little behinds. Tail up for the same reason - would YOU risk getting poo in a furry tail? Grin

I know it's a bit yuk, but I'm fascinated watching the sort of ripples through the body when my cats poo!

Lovely. Thanks for that. I’ve never really caught her having a poo and this is what I wanted to know.
She is short haired but has the hairiest bum known to pussy cat kind.
