Is he ill or acting up?

Tonight I've caught my male neutered one year old cat peeing on the kitchen floor. DH later heard scratching as if he was buying so put him in the litter box and he pooed. Obviously he'd have done this on the floor if he wasn't caught.

He's always been really good never done this. Last year we went in holiday leaving my brother to cat sit except he did a really bad job! Left him alone too long and we got home to scratch marks in our walls fairly high up he must've been climbing the walls.

We're about to go away for 2 weeks, the cases came out yesterday and he's been sulky ever since. So is he acting up to this thinking he's being left alone or is he ill? I don't know how many times him doing it would indicate an illness.

Highly doubtful he’s acting up. Probably a good idea to call his vet in the morning and ask. He might have a UTI. Poor guy, I hope he’s ok.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/05/2019 21:48

Sounds more uti to me, he’ll need to go as soon as you can get him there tomorrow with a wee sample if possible.

I’ve used oral syringes to suck wee off skirting boards in the past for urine samples.

I hope you’ve got a better cat sitter this time.

Okay I'll get him to the vet first thing. Yes he's staying with my friend who loves cats doesn't have any of her own anymore.

A cat cannot make the link between suitcases coming out and you going away

scaryteacher · 21/05/2019 10:41

Daisy Not sure about that. Mine can make the link between the cat boxes appearing and going somewhere, and have done for years!

HuggedTheRedwoods · 21/05/2019 11:15

Cats can definitely make the link when the cases come out!

sorry, posted too soon - comment about cases was in response to Daisy, but to OP I would also agree to take your boy to the vets to be checked.
