Neighbours cat, possible mange, advice

Hi.

Bit of a long story, but the neighbours have loads of cats. Bread them over and over. Mostly badly treated/neglected, no treatment for illnesses and stuff, not fixed. As I said, it's a long story.

There's one that comes in the garden, it looks as if it has mange or something. It's lost a lot of fur on each side, it's really thinned out to the point it's almost bald and has that wedge.

I don't think it will be being treated.

I had an idea to put a collar on it with a note saying it seems to have mange/something wrong and needs a vet.
Would this be OK?

Well it definitely needs a vet, but I can't see what difference a collar would make. The owners can hardly have failed to notice. This sounds like a situation for the RSPCA.

Honestly, as I say it's a long story, but there's been a number of people who have reported to the RSPCA and nothing's been done.

So, it doesn't seem a good idea?

I don't really know what to do to be honest. I have animals of my own and don't want them to catch anything, also I don't want him to be suffering.

If it was something easier I'd take him to the vets myself, I've done it before for them, but with skin issues, I know it can take a long time to clear things up with skin issues.

It could be flea allergy, I've seen cats who were neglected and nearly bald from it...

Sounds like this is just the tip of the iceberg though if their cats are not neutered and don't receive any vet care.

If I were to treat for fleas, would that help at all? I have given him some treatments in the past, so I don't mind.

Yes, you are right, this is the tip of a very large iceberg. There's been some absolute shocking things that would be quite outing, but things you wouldn't believe, but I have photos of some of them. It's shocking TBH and awful to see if you love animals, that's why I've stepped in at times.
