Coughing cat

At least I THINK it’s a cough and not a gag or snuffle.
It started last weekend, so 5-6 days now. I first thought it was a hairball or something or that she was going to throw up some grass but nothing happened.
She is 4-5 years old, still eating as normal and wanting cuddles, purring, sunbathing.

I’ve been watching videos on YouTube of cats with hairballs and asthma and it doesn’t seem to be like any of them. Does this need the vet? Any ideas what it could be? I’m trying to get a video of her making the noise so I can actually show the vet what it is.

I would get it checked out if it's a new thing. One of mine coughs. I thought it was feline asthma as it's exactly like the videos of it online. But vet says not. Can be a sign of heart disease. But my cat that had horrific heart disease never ever coughed.

My cat does the same thing. It comes on suddenly and she puts her head very close to the ground and starts coughing. Normally lasts a minute or so. I took a video and showed it to my vet but she didn't seem very interested.

My cat hat to go to a specialist centre for something completely unrelated and she started coughing while she was there. They told me she had mucous in her lungs which they removed (not sure how). It hasn't solved the problem though.
I hope your cat is OK.

My cat Troy coughed once or twice and I took him to the vets. Sadly he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He was only 5.

Has your car been wormed recently? Ours started coughing and it turned out he had worms. They cough as the worm lays eggs down the windpipe apparently. Yuk.

Our cat was only two weeks late with his wormer but we were religious about it after that.
