My cat suffers with constipation. Shes had 2 enemas a year for the last 7years and numerous micro enemas. After the last one in January i told myself i wasnt putting her through it again. Shes 18. The anaesthetic was too much. Her arthritic back legs got worse and her coat is only now looking healthier. Shes struggled to go to the toilet the last couple of days. I gave her a micro enema myself which worked on Wednesday but shes been scrabbling at her box since and a 2nd micro enema has done nothing.
The thing that makes it so hard is shes so affectionate, shes discovered at the grand old age of 18 that tummy rubs are actually quite good! She doesnt look particularly old or unwell.

Poor old girl. Ask the vets advice I guess, but it may be her time. It's so sad.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/05/2019 16:05

So sorry. You will know when the time is right.

Im so so sad. In a way itd be easier if she had say cancer but to have her pts because of constipation seems to cruel.

Old girl used to have a chronic hairball problem, never known anything like it. Had surgery to remove one. Vet suggested liquid paraffin to get things moving. Worked like a charm, started with a couple of ml via syringe at side of mouth, but she loved the stuff, so ended up putting it in food ( to be fair she was dustbin cat, so others might not be so obliging). Worth a try or at least asking vet if it's an idea?

Ive tried literally everything. Lactulose, liquid parafin, special food, miralax, Cisapride. You name it, shes been on it. But nothing works long term. Shes got megacolon. If she was younger she could be operated on but shes too old.

Yes, 18 probably pushing it for surgery.
If only we could keep them forever

Ah Plump. So sad , so sorry. But you have done the bravest thing, and put her needs first. RIP Plump-puss.
