Cat catching birds

So anyway to stop it? He has a collar with a bell on but I think it's mostly opportunity. Bird landed on the wall when cat was on the wall and he caught it in seconds. Tried to get him to let it go but it was not moving at all. This is the 3rd bird in 4 days. Feel so bad

Short of keeping him in during fledgling months, can you attach a couple of more bells to his collar so he's extra jangly? Sometimes the little bell can become nestled into the neck fur and muffles the sound but a couple more might help alert the birds.

That's a good idea but I dont know if it'll have much effect as it just happened to be a good opportunity no actual hunting. Hes eating them is he hungry? Should I feed him a bit extra?

My killer has 2 bells (one much bigger) plus an ID disc & they all jingle together very loudly.

He had lost his collar last autumn, didn’t go out much over winter, but I collared him again immediately when he brought a dead bird in 4 weeks ago Sad & since then all we’ve had (so far...) is one shrew.

So worth trying a bunch of bells!

These are the big loud ones. They are much louder than the ones collars come with.
