Weedkillers and cats - any safe options?

I know you have to be very careful with weedkiller around cats. However our patio that the cats loll around on is beginning to look like a total jungle. In the past, gardeners have sprayed it but I’m very concerned about keeping the cat safe. Is there any particular weed killer or alternative concoction that people use to control weeds coming up through the patio which is cat safe? Thanks.

I have 3 cats and have tried all sorts of pet safe weed killer and they are all useless - also tried looking on internet for "home remedies" - also crap! Have now invested in a pressure washer and use that a couple of times a year and put fresh sand in the joints!

You can burn them off with a wee blow-torch type arrangement. Completely effective and safe as long as you keep the cats clear while you're actually doing it!

I use salt. I brush it on and wait for rain. It’s never let me down.

strim it

Weeds do not grow up through the sand: seeds land on the surface and then grow down.

The best way to prevent weeds growing back is to sweep your patio regularly; it disturbs the seeds before they can get a foothold.

strim it - no chance - back within days literally. Is salt dangerous - what if cats lick it? Same with sand?? If either of these considered safe will try them both.

I’ve never seen him lick it, I sweep it in the cracks so he’s not treading on it.

It’s probably not as strong as the salt for doing pavements with in icy weather.

Either way I’ve not killed him yet.

Ideally you’d just weed it. Get them while they’re still small or take a knife to the biggest ones.
I’m guessing you’ve thought of that though. Smile
