DIY cat toys?

Hello everyone,

I have some spare fabric that I've kept aside for a while now and would like to make some little toys for my kittens and to give to my family members who have cats. I was thinking of cutting out fish shapes and filling them with catnip/cotton wool. Has anyone else hand made cat toys before and can give me any ideas/ tips?

Thank you

Aww thats a lovely idea.
Id be a little wary of filling it with cotton wool incase the cat managed to chew/claw it open and then ate the cotton wool?

Pillows filled with catnip. Cats pillow adore them. As long as any shape had dried catnip any cat will be in heaven

My lovely hairdresser knits mice, which she fills with catnip and lentils or split peas. My cat LOVES them, and is not at all interested in the lentils/peas when they start to disintegrate because she has mauled them. The filling gives them a good weight for tossing around, and I assume wouldn’t be toxic if a cat did eat it.

Thank you everyone :) I will just do 100% catnip rather than cotton wool

Or try valerian, some cats don't react to cat nip. My parents cat is immune, but goes nuts for valerian.

What a lovely idea.

How thick is the fabric?

When my two were much younger they had a knack of destroying catnip toys...so there would be a trail of the stuff around the house. I wonder if they would last a bit longer with a double thickness?
