What happened to our cat?

Our cat came home yesterday without his collar and a bit scared/anxious. We didn't realise it was him at first as he is all black and no other makings and there's exactly the same cat on our road. But you could tell from his neck that this cat had had a collie on. But I'm wondering what the hells happened to him, where's the collar gone. Dh reckons he must of got in a fight but how has another cat managed to get a collar off? I'm baffled 😕

What sort of collar was it? If they have a collar it should be a quick release one so that if they get caught on something it will open so they don't get strangled.

dementedpixie · 21/04/2019 10:14

Mine don't have collars for this reason

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 21/04/2019 10:15

maybe got himself hooked up somewhere??

I used to put collars on our first cats, but after having several phone calls from random neighbours finding collars I gave up! Hope your catface is happier this morning.

There's a real bruiser of the neighborhood cat near us and we've found his collars in our garden a couple of times. He's lost them when he's been fighting our neighbours cat.

At a guess that's what's happened to yours (not saying that yours is the neighborhood bully BTW, just that they've been in a scrap)

Once found my dcat hanging from a tree. Luckily she was found in time and was fine.
No collars here!!

chocolatelog · 21/04/2019 10:24

It's a collar like this. Is that kind of one ok?

That collar is fine. My guess is he either got in a fight and it got pulled off or got himself hooked somewhere and he had to pull hard to free himself. Check him for injuries, but he'll calm down soon after he has had a sleep and a snack.

chocolatelog · 21/04/2019 10:28

The reason I put a collar on him is because he has no distinguishing marks he's just black all over. When he came home he was being weird and doing things he wouldn't normally do. I didn't think it was him at first as there other black cats about. If he's got a collar on I know it's him. I need to get him chipped too and on his collar was his identity details, which now he has lost 🤦🏻‍♀️

Mine got chipped when they got neutered

sashh · 21/04/2019 10:47

I had a cat jump into my garden once, it's colar caught on a nail in the fence. I could see a cat being hung, fortunately it was a quick release collar so by the time I got to it the collar had unfastened and was just hanging on the nail.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/04/2019 10:51

I wouldn’t use any collar. I think he’s been in a fight.

Cats protection sometimes do cheap micro chipping.

viccat · 21/04/2019 12:42

How can you not recognise your own cat, regardless of colour? I have two black cats and they look completely different from each other and I would recognise them anywhere. Confused

chocolatelog · 21/04/2019 12:45

@viccat because there are identical ones on the same street the same size and everything.

Please make an appt for this week to get this done. The number of cats who are found - dead and alive - in my small area alone that are not chipped or have out of date details is heartbreaking.

As pp say, cat charities often run low cost or free campaigns if cost is an issue.

My parents cat is always loosing his collar!
