When to let the new cats out?

Hi there, I'm a new cat owner looking for advice.

We re-rehomed two adult cats about 6 weeks ago. We kept them in for 4 weeks, but then needed to put them in a cattery for a week (not ideal, but sadly unavoidable). They've been home again for a week. Should we keep them in for another 3 weeks before we let them out? 🤔

Grateful for your help!

It depends on how settled they seem really. Are they friendly and relaxed with all members of the family and not skittish?

There's no harm in waiting a bit longer if you're unsure.

I assume they are both neutered and microchipped, and fully vaccinated?

Yes they are both microchipped and have their jabs. The boy cat is more friendly and chilled, his sister is a bit more cautious. Just wondered if their trip to the cattery means I have to start from scratch with the keeping them in malarkey.

Thanks for your advice.

I’d keep them in a make a big effort to play and bond with them. Then they will be secure in coming home.

If they are climbing to get out might be different.

Thanks for your advice. We bit the bullet at the weekend, and after a nervous first 20 mins they came back for breakfast, and spent the rest of the day wandering in and out of the house. So far so good! Its lovely to see them enjoying the sunshine and exploring the garden Smile
